is here to help students and staff of charter schools consider AT, evaluate students' needs for AT, recommend helpful AT, allow AT checkouts, and train on basic implementation of AT. |
AT = Assistive Technology
Assistive Technology can be a device.
"Any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of a student with a disability. The term does not include a medical device that is surgically implanted, or the replacement of such a device." Assistive Technology can be a service. "Any service the directly assists a student with a disability in the selection, acquisition, or use of an assistive technology device." |

Questions to use when considering AT
What does the student need to do/accomplish?
(i.e. IEP goals, participation in class, communication with peers or adults)
What has been tried to help the student achieve the goals?
(i.e. accommodations, modifications, staff support, peer support, assistive technology)
If other supports have been unsuccessful in helping a student achieve his/her goals, please complete a referral form. We will help you evaluate the student's needs and recommend helpful Assistive Technology.
